Wandering @11:02 pm
Not Quite Times Square
---------------------------
Tonight I have no plans, I think I’ll just wander up to Times Square and see what’s happening deep in the heart of touristville.
Goddamn, it's chilly out here and it's raining. Fuck.
I really don't feel like going to Times Square tonight now, after all. Hey, what's that over there?
O'Reilly's pub, that was one of my first stops on the old bar crawl. Maybe we'll make that tonight's destination. Let's go check it out.
Well! What a difference a year makes. The bartender told me I couldn't take photos and didn't seem too thrilled with the MAD blog after I explained it to him. Harumph! Last year I would've taken a lonely walk, found another place, even though I didn't feel like doing it and would go somewhere and try to be the life of the party and take pictures and mingle with people I really didn't feel like mingling with. I'm happy to announce that that shit is over with here at MAD. Sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. And sometimes you just feel like going home, so that's exactly what I'm going to do.
Sometimes it's not quite Times Square and that's okay. Goodnight everybody and see you tomorrow, after dark.
---------------------------
Okay, just so I'm not being a total slacker today, I'll post some links up to some other blogs I check and comment on daily. They're all fine reads and you should really check them out. They're in no order and if I left you off, just send me an email and I'll put your link up. Happy trails and thank you very much for the aintree iron! Thank you very, very much!

So I hung up the telephone
Got some paper and sharpened up a pencil
And wrote a letter to my friend.

One year ago today …. I get my New York Daily News daily email …. and I see this article about some dude who, at first glance, looks like Kiefer Sutherland, going to 365 bars in a row ? This character is at the White Horse Tavern in the West Village – a great watering hole. I go check out this supposed 365 blog – and the first entry is from Foley’s in midtown Manhattan – which I used to go to all the time. I’m like … wow ! – this is something that I could only dream of having the opportunity to do !!! I became a 365 junkie right there ! 365 influenced the rest of my NYC pub crawls for eternity. I had the privilege of meeting Marty for 10 nights on the crawl, met the coolest Australians you’ll ever come across, and found new places to booze at – that I never would have found by myself ……… historic by all booze metrics ….. and incredibly fun. Foley’s was only #59 on the crawl … so I got to enjoy 306 nights of an awesome journey ! Now we’ve all migrated over here to M.A.D. – and I’m sure Kiefer will illuminate us all with hundreds of cool things to do in New York Fucking City !!!!!!!
MVP TO MARTY !!!!!!!
@GENE: People at work always kid me about looking like Kiefer Sutherland and I've never seen the connection, but it cracks me up you think I look like him too. I wish I had his paycheck! One of the good things about doing the 365 bar crawl was meeting you and the rest of the BBC and making new friends. Thanks to you and all the other commenters and friends I've made through my journeys. I appreciate all of you reading and following along!
Best. MAD. Post. Ever! LOL! Loved the links especially the EV Lambo!
One of my all time fave beach boys songs! thank you..
Marty you are just awesome!!!
you could have posted a pic of a street sign or a piece of lint on the ground and made it fun to read!
yeah, times square is pretty much dead at night, now that the walking dead during the day have left. need to bring back the edginess and character of the old times square of the '80's and early to mid '90's.
This site IS more of "One Man's Journey into the Night"
Which is why it makes it different, an interesting adventure.
To see where it takes you and where you take the readers.
You must have walked into a strange parallel universe last night
A place inhabited by Bill O'Reilly's Pub.
(what a difference a year makes)
That WAS a good stop... yes, I checked the link.
Some great Blog Links, some of which I frequent regularly already.
Happy 1 year Anniversary Gene.
But I think you both may be in cahoots with the Kiefer Sutherland thing,
coming off the heels of the Leslie Hope interview. Ha.
Whatever it takes Daddio.
Great Beach Boys tune as well.
@Barfly: If one person discovers the EV Lambo site because of me, I feel I've done my job!
@Gidgie: I love that Beach Boys song as well, great Brian Wilson tune. And thanks for the nice words!
@esquared: I wish we could have the old Times Square back, but sadly, it looks like Dead Lobster and the Hershey Highway store have won.
@"Boris:" Thanks, Daddio, you are one big part of this adventure. The logo you created alone makes the page!
Just got through checking out Gidget's blog and got a surprise! I thought I was the only one that remembered that creepy Patty Duke movie; 'You'll Like My Mother'...a kind of a gothic suspense thriller where a pregnant Patty Duke is trapped in a creepy old mansion with her dead boyfriend's mom after a blizzard (it was filmed in Minnesota) and dear old mom is hiding Richard Thomas (John Boy Walton) her psycho pervert son from the cops because of his hideous behavior issues. Haven't seen that movie in decades!
Kiefer Sutherland , Don't see the connection !!!
But before the 365 Bar Crawl , was The Marty Wombacher Show ( AKA TMWS ) , & I never check out sites like that 1 or the other , but Marty's writing & ideas of different blogs he wanted to invent & invented what turn me on to his sites . If it wasn't TMWS , I wouldn't have met ZioumZioum The Chain Saw , who is now My Wife .
I really would like you to open TMWS again , maybe just for a reunion , & put up some fun stuff like you used to do .
TO Marty !!!! & Bring Back The Marty Wombacher Show or I will .................................
Good idea to have all these links right here, so handy. Checking out the Half empty glass, the Cool Hand Luke clip about spending the night in the box,,,hilarious stuff.
Since you've got all this Kiefer banter goin' on over here, I'd like to hereby submit my request that your December 25 post be you jumping into a Christmas tree. Thanks in advance!
@Jaws: I gotta check that movie out!
@JHwang: Send me your wedding photos and I'll post them at TMWS.
@Al: The Half Empty Glass always has entertaining posts.
@Biff: Okay, but I don't think my parents are going to be happy.
Sorry to hear Bill O'Reilly's was such a bust. Maybe O'reilly was just having a bad night.

If it brings any sort of cosmological order to your universe Keifer, O'Reilly's and Nile's are owned by the same twat.
love that last shot. new york looks shiny when it rains. not quite times square sounds like a song title! thanks for the links, i think the rest of my afternoon will be shot checking them all out though! lol!
Wow that The Legendary EV Lambo! really gave me a headache...yikes. Interesting though....
Has the rain stopped there yet?
@cp: I had no idea the assholes who own Niles own O'Rielly's! I'm never spending coinage in there again. I'll watch the YouTube clip when I get home, it's blocked here at work.
@rita r: Enjoy the links, they're all great blogs.
@Tiki Bar Susie: You should follow EV Lambo on Twitter! It's been raining off and on all day and into the night. Tonight I have an actual destination, so the rain won't be a factor.
Just for the record, there are no pictures of Marty and Kiefer @ the same place @ the same time.
Hey Marty, Thanks for putting me on your list ... some scarily good company for a newcomer. I only discovered 365 late in the year but loved it right away, & MAD is great stuff. When are you getting to the 6th Ave. & 8th Papaya place? The best of the bunch, in my book, & the papaya drink there is much less disgusting than the one you recently tried!
@one more folded sunset: Happy to have you on the list, I like your blog and think you may win the tree contest! I'll be going to that Papaya in a week or so, it's not far from where I live. I like it there too, nice to hear from you!
Shit that is a lot of blogs you read! I feel honored to be on the list. And I agree with @Tiki Bar Susie, definitely headache worthy! My son saw it and came over and said, what is that? I wasn't sure what to say. I don't see the Kiefer connection, you're much better looking.
@kari: You definitely deserve on the list, I enjoy your blog and photographs. And thanks for the compliment!
@Kari: After Marty takes a call when everyone else is in a out-of-service zone; and he's really mad, and he ties a guy up, and he beats the living shit out of him, and he screams at him, "Where's the bomb!", and he points a gun in his face; that's when a lot of people say, "Hey Marty, you look a lot like Kiefer Sutherland." Then everyone has a good chuckle, except the guy Marty tied up.
haha @cp, yeah ok I might see it now, not that I ever saw an episode though. I've never been able to get past the Lost Boys Kiefer, he creeps me out because of that.
