Midnight Movie @12:01 am
Chelsea
Okay, it’s Friday and that means it’s time for the Midnight Movie here at MAD. Tonight’s movie is one of my all-time favorites, “Fear Strikes Out.” It stars Anthony Perkins and Karl Malden and both of them are great in it. It’s the true story of Jimmy Piersall, a Boston Red Sox player (hello csp!), who, for a while, was a couple bases shy of a baseball diamond. This movie chronicles those kooky years of Piersall and his bitter and over-bearing father. Okay, let’s go to my apartment and watch it.
Every year there's a night when you walk out and realize that winter is finally over. Tonight's that night and it feels great! Of course, now that I've said that it'll probably snow six feet tomorrow.
Nice, you just tack a sign to the door and tell the store to move itself! Let's try that here: Movie, start now.
You can't read this in the picture, but it's an error box saying that a critical error has happened and the disc cannot recover. I tried cleaning it but got the same error in the same place. Looks like in addition to fear, this movie has also struck out. Anthony Perkins went "Psycho" three years later and Karl Malden used an American Express Card to get to San Francisco. The End. Goodnight everybody and see you tomorrow after dark.
Further reading and watching: IMDb, TCM, Fandango and American Express.

You should do yourself a favor and tune into "The Secret Weapon" show on Woody Radio. "Boris" supplys the tunes and DJ Gidget adds movie lines in between! Check it out here: "The Secret Weapon At Woody Radio!"

Anthony Perkins really was kind of a mental health poster boy for the 1960's, wasn't he? I've got 'Fear Strikes Out' in my permanent collection...it's a special film for me too...my old man was just like Karl Malden in that movie...for real, the son of a bitch. Brrrr.
P.S. - my old man's obsession was golf...and to this day I can't look at a golf ball without thinking how great it would be to stuff the fucker right up my dad's ass. Grrrrrauuuurgh!!!
@Jaws: I've got the title for your movie: "Fore Strikes Out!"
Ive never seen that movie. Karl Malden was a great actor, Perkins always looked nervous and jumpy to me.
Friday Night Movie makes me feel really young. And not in a good way.
I think Papaya King gets bonus points for keeping up the conversation!
"They're comming to take me away haha, they're comming to take me away hoho hehe haha to the HAPPY HOME, and I'll be HAPPY to see those NICE YOUNG MEN in their CLEAN WHITE COATS and they're COMMING TO TAKE ME AWAY HA HAAAAAAAAHAAAAA!!
@Al: you ought to check the film out. Both Karl Maldne and Anthony Perkins are over the top in it.
@kari: I agree, glad that the King is back in the coversation!
@Jaws: Fooooore!
The Secret Weapons Poster looks like a sexy babe sitting on a condom !!!
Whats up with Midnight Movie that ended oddly .
Q: MAD received a scratched, damaged or unplayable DVD. What do I do?
A: If MAD can't play a DVD, have him try cleaning it first -- window cleaner on a paper towel works well. If the DVD is cracked, damaged or still won't play, have him report it at the Activity page in his Your Account, where he can also request a replacement DVD.
We ask that he please return the damaged disc; it helps us keep costs low.
Oh and maybe rent your own damn movie.
@Jason: I think the disc is scratched.
@csp: Sadly, it's not a Netflix disc, it's mine. And now it's ruined. Sob!
Did it died?

Yankees suck.
@csp: Yep, deader than Anthony Perkins. Thanks for the Amazon link, I'll pick up a new one and try this again.
sorry to see midnight movie stopped short...but sumthing must have touched jaws...boy he went off topic quick...and csp...thought the civil war was over...then realize that he was referring to a sports team...i never what's in seasom until some city goes bonkers 'cause the "home" team won sumthing or another...'cause i'm way off topic anyway...attempted to do a couple homemade corn dogs today in honor of "national corn dog day"...failed big time but the tater tots were tasty and the PBR's were cold...not a total loss...and now a step further off topic...has anyone checked the moon this evening?...what a sight!...

@RR It's not baseball season, but it's a Red Sox movie and the Red Sox (like Boston itself) has a NY complex. Red Sox fans don't root for their team so much as root against the Yankees. Ergo Yankees suck.
The moon is @ its perigee in relation to the earth.
FYI PBR is a hipster beer on the East Coat. (A happy coincidence with the recession which has further boosted its popularity).
PBR is from Milwaukee, so is Neale Walsch. Unfortunately he is not Polish, cause Poles are awesome.

@rr: I had a bit of a fail on corndog day, you can read about it tomorrow. Love the fear quote! The moon was bright tonight. Supermoon!
@csp: PBR was orginally brewed in Peoria, that's why I drink it.
I heard about the super moon, but its too cloudy here to see it. We miss out on everything.
csp....PBR a hipster beer on the east coast?....guess nobody told the two dudes that started "National Corn Dog Day" they were/are in Oregon...i really never thought frank booth was a hipster...only had on ice for ncd and as those that followed 365 are well aware i normally consume colt 45...

ALLTHEWAY-ALLTHEWAY-ALLTHEWAY
I hate Anthony Perkins AND baseball, so I don't know if I'll be watching this movie anytime soon. But I do think I may take advantage of the weather and have a hotdog and brewski and patio combo sometime soon!
@tehennessey: Best line from the movie!
@Biff: That sounds like a great combo to me!
Neale Walsch's grandfather, Boleslaw Wasielewski immeigated to the USA from Poland in 1904.
@Walsch: That's good to know!
