When Gene and Smoopy of the BBC were here a couple weeks ago, we stopped in for a quick drink at Rolf’s and I noted at the post I was going to come back for an official MAD visit. Tonight’s the night I go out in search of a swizzle stick and I thought that Rolf’s would be the perfect place to go, maybe they even have some sort of a Christmas swizzle! Let’s go see if a holiday miracle happens in the form of a swizzle stick tonight!

It's a rainy, dreary night out, but at least it's not freezing cold, so let's soldier on to Rolf's.

Well, Rolf's certainly can brighten up a dreary-ass night!

A peek inside the front window reveals the blinding Christmas orgy of lights and decorations inside, let's go check it out.

A street sign greets you as you walk in the door to the festive atmosphere.

The bar is crowded for a Tuesday night.

There's no swizzle stick, just a black plastic straw, but that's okay, there's more to see here than a swizzle stick, so let's take a look around.

Here's the back of the bar in all its lit up glory.

Wooden booths line the walls opposite the bar.

And the creepy dolls are still here. Yikes, she's staring at me!

The back dining room is lit up as well. Check out the deer head on the wall, talk about your deer in the headlights!

Here's Santa boozing it up, looks like Rudolph isn't going to be the only one with a red nose tonight.

There's a blowjob joke somewhere here, but I'm not going there.

Here's Johnny who's a waiter at Rolf's.

And another scary doll looking down at me. These doll's are giving me a Twilight Zone Talking Tina flashback.

Let's go back to the bar.

Here's the lovely Milka, who was picking up an order at the bar. Love her smile!

For a nightcap, I got a glass of Rolf's special eggnog, no swizzle stick, but there is a cinnamon stick, so we'll call it an even trade. Goodnight everybody and see you tomorrow after dark.

Today while Googling around I found a place that might be a second Fortress of Solitude. It’s a Jewish deli called, “Sarge’s” and it’s on 37th and Third Avenue which is just about ten blocks from where I work. And it’s open 24 hours, 365 days a year. Perfect for a place to go after a late night at work. From what I’ve read it’s an old school joint and they serve beer there. They probably don’t serve 32 ounce beers, but maybe Al will like this place better. But don’t worry, I’d never totally abandon the Papaya Dog, but let’s go check out this possible alternative Fortress of Solitude.

And we're off, it's a nice summer night out tonight.

Here's a person playing a pink piano in Greeley Square, part of the Pop Up Pianos Project.

I'm just going to ignore this scary sidewalk gum stain and keep moving along.

And here we are, Sarge's Delicatessen. It looks promising!

"Open 24 Hours" always the sign of an old school diner.

Here's Keith who was manning the front register tonight.

A refrigerated case up front houses vegetables and house-cured meats.

Pickles!

Wow, nice display of cakes.

Okay, time to find a seat, there's booths up front...

But I think I'd prefer a table in the back.

I grab a menu on my way back...

And I think I'll sit here at this cozy little table.

Gumby's all settled in at the table.

And I look up and see the mark of old-school excellence, a tin ceiling!

Colorful chandeliers hang from the ceiling and illuminate the diner.

And this is our lovely and friendly waitress, Kostastina.

An ice-cold bottle of Budweiser is immediately served up, beautiful!

I ordered the matzo ball soup and it was delicious.

My patented ebony and ivory shot.

And since this is going to be my alternative Fortress of Solitude, I had to try the hot dog. It was great and the mustard is spicy.

After I ate, I thought I'd check out some of the signed celebrity pictures on the wall.

Who love's Sarge's, baby? Telly Savalas, that's who!

A vintage shot of Larry Storch from back in the "F-Troop" days.

Here's a fuzzy shot of Professor Irwin Corey, one of my childhood heroes. Kostastina told me he lives in the neighborhood and comes in every day around 2pm and always has a joke or two. She told me another regular is Danny DeVito.

It's Kitty Carlisle, I tell the truth!

Okay, I settled up with Keith and now it's back out into the night.

Aaaaahhhh!

(Okay, I went here on Sunday with my parents and was going to post this yesterday, but then Osama shook ace/deuce and I wanted to document that, so I put that up yesterday. So today’s post is from Sunday night. Confused? Welcome to the club, I’m dizzier than Tommy Roe with an ear infection at this point. Anyway, enjoy!)

Okay, tonight’s my parent’s last night in town. One of our favorite places to go to is The Water Club which overlooks the East River and has a great view. The food is really good too. It’s kind of a fancy place, but you don’t have to get dressed up to dine there. You can and many do, but I’ve never gotten attitude for wearing jeans. My parents are coming over to my place before dinner for drinks and snacks.

And speaking of snacks, tonight's snack mix is going to be made up of pure Utz snacks. I love the little Utz girl snack girl. She reminds me of a punk rock version of Nancy.

As I've mentioned before, I'm a board-certified snackologist, what I'm about to show you should only be attempted by board-certified snackologists, PLEASE, don't try this at home! Here's my official board-certified snackologist mixing container.

Slowly and carefully we'll add carefully measured portions to the Utz snack casserole.

After two and a quarter hours of mixing, measuring and pruning, the snack casserole is done. Beautiful!

And here's my parents in my apartment. My Dad enjoys some of the snack mix and my mom is holding my Joan Jett book I got from Ammo books.

Here we are in a cab zooming to the Water Club.

And here we are, let's go inside and start the dinner portion of the evening.

Here's the front bar, which will be familiar if you followed my 365 Bar Crawl.

It's no surprise that this place has a nautical theme. A three hour tour.

Here we are at our table. It's bright in the background and we got blacked out. We'll try this again later when the sun goes down.

I love halter tops and looking at the back of a woman. Wow, she's sure an eyeful! Nice shoulder blades!

My Dad was saying something, but I wasn't quite sure what he was talking about...

As I was too busy elsewhere. Okay, I'll quit obsessing.

This is my third beer, so it's time to make a trip to the Men's room.

You know a place has class when they have a flower pot above the urinal. But I put the ass in class and thought they'd look better somewhere else.

Don't they look better there? A tree may grow in Brooklyn, but flowers sprout in urinals in Manhattan.

Poetry in motion!

When I got back dinner was served! My mom got a filet.

My Dad got the trout...that almost sounds like he got a disease.

I got the lobster roll, french fries and cole slaw. It was delicious!

The sun's down and we got a decent table shot. Influenced by The Rutles, I'm having tea.

Here's our dessert, my Mom got ice cream with chocolate sauce. I got...

Aaaaaaahhhhh!!!

If they do say so themselves...(taken from the “about” section of their website.)
