Friday Midnight Movie—“After Hours” @12:07 am
My Apartment/ChelseaI had a conversation last week with MAD commenter (and former 365 bars copilot) Al last week and among the subjects that came up was the movie After Hours. After Hours came out in 1985 and it’s directed by Martin Scorsese. It’s a weird movie and a friend of mine has said that when he watches it, it makes him feel like there’s bugs crawling under his skin and I couldn’t agree more. All of us have had nights where you just can’t seem to get home, but it never gets as bad as it does for Paul Hackett. You’ll see what I mean as the MAD Friday Night Midnight Movie rolls. Lights, camera...internet!
Okay, last week I was able to cut out huge chunks of Glengarry Glen Ross and still tell the story. I can't do that with After Hours, so we'll have to do it in sections. Stay tuned next Friday for part 2. Goodnight everybody and see you tomorrow after dark. And while we're on the topic of movies, listen to The Secret Weapon on Woody Radio with movie lines inserted between songs, lots of fun and great tunes! Songs by "Boris" movie lines by Gidget! The show runs today from 10 am to 5 pm. Stream it live here: The Secret Weapon.
I’m gonna wait, way in the midnight hour
That’s when my love begins to shine.

Its Balki from Perfect Strangers! I have a feeling all of your movies are going to be ones I have never seen. And so far never heard of. I'm intrigued to see the rest.
now MAD is stringing us along with wait till next week...after next week (damn maybe MAD should suggest that to martin)...when the "screenin' is complete next week then MAD might screen scorsese's "the big shave" at only six minutes long MAD might be able to get it all in one post...talk about bugs crawling...

@kari: This is a great movie and a really original script.
@rr: Never heard of "The Big Shave," I'll look for it and will screen it when this one is done. I'm intrigued!
I have seen "After Hours" at least twenty times, as you know, and I never get bored watching it. Linda Fiorentino is an actress that I find very sexy, small role here but her voice, rather smoky, sounds so cool. Besides "Men in Black", she did "The last Seduction", and she was really hot in the scene behind the bar in that one . "After Hours" has taken on cult classic status and those scenes on the deserted soho streets are so cool, I have pointed out some similar shots you took during 365 and always think of this movie. And the Terminal bar,,,,the music is so perfect.
This is a classic New York movie and perfect for this blog! I love how the movies you show take on a little different twist the way you present them, this is a great idea! Even though like Al, I've seen this countless times, I'm anxious for After Hours, Part II, The MAD edition!
Marty After Dark...home of the clifhanger!
jaws...you workin' on a visual for that?...

I used to have such a crush on Griffin Dunne.. ok still do.. love this film.
the day I flew to the Midwest to pick a house i got stuck at st Louis airport cause of tornadoes..( in all reality bush flew in and they shut the airport down)
While wandering around with my then 13 year old buying books and eating crap food for five hours we bumped into literally bumped into Griffin Dunne.
I said sorry and moved on.. he was just as grumpy as me and he probably wished he knew "B's famous word "clusterfuckilicsious"
I wonder if that was a sign of things to come.
I took it as a good sign to be stuck in an airport under false pretense with him.
He was still hot too.
Thank you Marty for the plug today!
@Al: A great New York movie. The first time I saw it in Peoria I remember thinking how cool it would be to live in New York. Then about five years later I finally made it here.
@Barfly: Glad you're liking these, they're fun to do.
@Jaws: Ha! Great catchphrase. Cliff Hanger is also a good anti-porn name.
@Gidgie: How cool you bumped into Grffin Dunne! Happy to give you a shout-out, The Secret Weapon was great today!
NY does tend to become much, much larger after the sun goes down. Thanks for the reminder Marty.
@cp: I think everyone who's lived in New York has had one of those night's where you just can't seem to get home. I know you have!
you forgot the link...
I don't know what I'm searching for
I never have opened the door,
Tomorrow might find me at last,
Turning my back on the past,
But, time will tell, of stars that fell,
A million years ago.
Memories can never take you back, home, sweet home.
You can never go home anymore.
All my life I never really knew me till today,
Now I know why, I'm just another step along the way,
I lie awake for hours, I'm just waiting for the sun.
When the journey we are making has begun,
Don't deny the feeling that is stealing through your heart,
Every happy ending needs to have a start.
All my life I never really knew me till today,
Now I know why, I'm just another step along the way,
Weep no more for treasures you've been searching for in vain.
'Cos the truth is gently falling with the rain,
High above the forest lie the pastures of the sun,
Where the two that learned the secret are now one.
I don't know what I'm searching for
I never have opened the door,
Tomorrow might find me at last,
Turning my back on the past,
But, time will tell, of stars that fell,
A million years ago.
Memories can never take you back, home, sweet home.
You can never go home anymore.
@rr: Perfect lyrics for this post, what song are they from?
I just added this to my recently new Netflix queue. I'll let you know what I think when I get it.
MAD...Moody Blues (version) You Can Never Go Home....
Every Good Boy Deserves Favour album 1971....

@kari: I've had Netflix for years and I love it! I'll be anxious to see what you think of the movie.
@rr: Shit, I think I had that album way back when, I'll check it out again, thanks.
Shouldn't all movies about getting home end with
this?
It would make all the hangover, hurt, and heartache 100% more funner.
I have a love/hate relationship with this movie. I love it because it's awesome, but I hate it because it always makes me feel sick to my stomach. I'm glad that I've never (yet) had a night in New York like this. And I'm glad that sharks don't do oral. And I miss the landshark. And I miss Teri Garr.
@Biff: I've never had a night this bad, but I've come close. Is Teri Garr dead?
No! She's been dealing with MS for a long time, though. And then she had a brain aneurysm a few years ago. Last time I saw her was on Letterman a couple years back, where she held her own despite all the shit. She's just so great - always loved her work and had a major crush on her. Have you seen "Searching for Debra Winger" yet? She was in that...great doc on women in the industry. You should check it out.
@Biff: I know she has MS but didn't know about the brain aneurysm. I always liked her too and her visits on Letterman were epic. "Searching For Debra Winger" is in my Netflix Queue, I'm anxious to see it.
