Live, from New York, it’s Cheeseburger Saturday Night! Starring Old Town Bar, with special guest stars, Kari and Britta and featuring The Ready For Prime Beef Player, Marty Wombacher. Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome Kari, Britta and Old Town bar!
******UPDATE: Kari just posted photos and a blog from last night! Check it out here: Leaf Girl.
Okay, as stated in the introduction, I've got special guests coming over tonight. Most of you know Kari from the comments section and from her blog, Leaf Girl. She's in town tonight and she's coming over with her sister Britta, who also has a blog, check it out: Justice Girl. And when special guests come over, we all know what that means...snack time! Here's my patented snackologist bowl.
Tonight I'm making a snack I just made up invented earlier in the day, it's called "Potato Chip Potpourri." I start with a base of Utz baked potato chips.
And now I add Lay's barbecue chips, Muncho's, Utz sour cream and onion, and the icing on this classic snack invention is...
A layer of Funyuns on the top! And, a gentle reminder, PLEASE, don't try this at home. I'm a board-certified snackologist with years of training under my belt. Now we wait for the guests to arrive.
And through the magic of the internet, you'll never know that they were over 40 minutes late (but they did call to tell me.) And here they are, from left: Britta and Kari! Welcome ladies and enjoy the snacks!
They don't drink booze, but they are serious Cokeheads! Couple of Kari's friends had made suggestions on where to go, but one involved something like a nine pound cheeseburger and sounded a little gross and the other suggestion was Jackson Hole. I know of Jackson Hole, but the name makes me think of Michael Jackson's sphincter, so we decided on...
Old Town Bar! Yeah, I know we went there last week, but Kari and Britta had never been and I wanted them to experience a real New York bar, so we here are!
Here's Kari and Britta taking shots of the bar. Check their blogs to see if the photos made it to the internet.
And we'll head to the back room. If you have a sense of deja vu looking at this photo, it means you probably watched David Letterman when he was on NBC, they filmed the opening sequence in here.
I knew what I wanted, so I left Kari and Britta to go take a table full of strangers photo.
Hello table of strangers! Cheers!
I also stopped in to visit our old friends, the giant urinals!
It's been a while since I took an obligatory bathroom mirror shot, so here we go!
And when I came back, Lucille was serving up our dinner! Lucille is Pamela's sister by the way. And Pamela was our lovely waitress last week for those of you keeping score. Hike!
Britta got the hot dog in honor of Biff! To quote Biff: "Ta-da!" (For those of you who don't know, Biff invented the phrase, "Ta-da!")
Kari got the Bison Burger...
And since I'm Mr. Redundant, I got the same meal I got last week. The food was delicious and before we knew it, it was time to go. And as we learned last week, when you're at Old Town, when you gotta go...
You gotta go! (Yeah, I'm going to milk this joke everytime I'm in here!) Goodnight everybody and we'll see you tomorrow after dark.

Looks like you guys had a great time, even with the girls not being drinkers. Having said that, I doubt I could go into a bar and not have a drink myself.
I thought you were just joking about not trying to make snack mixes without a board certified mixologist on site. Went for a dorito/popcorn mix yesterday, which was awful - and I slipped on a wet spot in the kitchen afterwards and the largely uneaten mix spilled all over the floor.
Can't go wrong with Old Town !
Was America's cutest couple there ?
I agree with GENE! You could go there every night and not go wrong! Love the last shot! I sense another MAD running gag...or should I say peeing gag! LOL!
Snack Mixologist you,,,,though without the booze,,,,still good. Old Town is where everyone should go at least once,,,,though myself, a dive bar freak, and Marty you know what I like,,,dark dingy dives, no six flags for me,,,,give me Blarney Cove or Holland Bar or even Jimmys Corner,,,the UFB,,,right, Gene?
@Al ... me and Smoopy will put Marty through the ringer on Saturday ... he'll be a walking/waddling UFB machine !
P.S. Great to see Kari in person outside of the comments section! How come Britta doesn't comment? Doesn't she like you? LOL!
@JAZ: It's all Funyuns and games till someone falls to the floor. Mmmmm, floor mix.
@MAD: Girls, welcome to New York, and now for the obligatory Empire Leak. Also, isn't Diet Cocaine redundant?
@JAZ: I made up for the two non-drinkers! And sorry to hear about your accident! Don't say I didn't warn you!
@GENE: I didn't see them, maybe next time! Looking forward to next Saturday!
@Al: Don't worry, I had plenty of beer! I love all those bars you mentioned as well. To the UFB!
@Britta: Britta can't stand me! Just kidding, she's like me, she told me she's already got so many blogs she comments on that she can't squeeze anymore in. Maybe she'll show up on this thread.
@csp: "isn't Diet Cocaine redundant?" Ha ha ha! Good one!
It was great to taste a concoction from the snackologist, it was very tasty and I kinda wanted to take it home. And sorry again about being late! I really, really hate being late. Damn kids being all needy and shit.
Do want to thank Marty again for letting us tag along and showing us around (getting us lost) in his neighborhood. It was the highlight of our trip
@Barfly, Britta had never read the site before, she was just my chaperon for the evening. But she read out loud 3 recent posts to help entertain us on the way home today, and I think is already a fan. And the posts were even more entertaining read out loud.
@csp, it being diet just makes you feel less guilty about the side-effects.
great to see kari and her sister! looks like you had fun and loved the repeat gag in the last shot! lol!
Oh and in case anyone was curious like I was, yes the floor does get wet in that bathroom. Guys + bathrooms = gross.
@kari: Great to meet you and Britta in person last night. It was a lot of fun, I enjoyed hanging out with the two of you and getting all of us lost! As you can see, I'll never get a job here as a tour guide! And no worries about being late, I was just kidding in the post!
@rita r: Yet another joke I plan on running into the ground! Remember the "lonesome walk" back at 365?
Hey - I'm a fan now! How could I not be - all that Beatles paraphernalia and vintage playboys? Oh yes, and you were a fantastic host. That snack mix was a little too addicting, I was wondering if we could dump it in my purse without you noticing. Thank you thank you for taking us around town on my first sans-kids NYC experience in 14 years. I'll post my pictures when I get a chance to decompress from the long drive home - I think I'm the only one who actually got the flat iron building to show up in the shot. Cheers!
@Britta: So great to meet you and Kari last night! Thanks for being a sport and posing in the men's room. I'll be anxious to see your photos! And glad you liked the snack mix, it took me about five hours to prepare it! Cheers!
The stranger in the gray sweatshirt was kinda hot. Sigh.. I need to get out more...
@Roger_Paw: Get out now, he may still be there!
Hey Marty....
some mean shit wen t down between 4pm and 8pm. All I remember is I went to the Tile Bar (WCOU(nt) on East 7th St. . They have a LETHAL $ 2.50 Bloody Mary Special on Sundays...expertly prepared.. evidently I overestimated my prowess. Presently I'm extremely fucked up...and I still have the 20 Dollar bill I walked in with....do you remember where I live? It's not easy being a drunk.
UFB to Uncle Waltie !
Well played U.W. !!!
@Marty, here is the link we were talking about that got me to buy your book.
I'm posting it here because maybe it will get someone else to read it, and maybe they will enjoy it as much as I did.
@Uncle Waltie: When are we going to meet for drinks?
@GENE: I agree! To Uncle Waltie!
@kari: Thanks and I hope you know how much I appreciate you buying it and reading it! Very nice! And thanks to Gidget for the original post. You're all good friends and I'm grateful for that!
Marty--I never knew you were a "foodie" too. I am as well. Thank you for the humor you provide in these somewhat hard times. A sense of humor will always get you by. Bon Appetit!
@Melanie: Bon Aperteeto you as well
I'll have a really long sausage with a Woodpecker....Thank You! My kind of gal, even if she doesnt drink! Burgers look pretty damn good.....May have to check this place out when i come to town, after a visit with the Chillmaster!
Too Cool For School!
Great to see Kari and Brita
@Kari: I like your website, I'm a tree huger too.
Yay to tree huggers @Harry!
@Professor Dungpie: When are you coming to town? I'll alert the Chillmaster!
@Harry: Too cool indeed! I'm going out to hug a tree right now!
I lurve the bathroom mirror shot btw.
@Melanie: I love your mirror shots too!
Sorry so late to this post, but here I am! TA-DA! I'm so glad that Britta got the hot dog - I swear, it's the best one in the whole wide world!! The other grub looked good, too. Especially those onion rings. Anyhoo, looks like you all had fun. TO POTATO CHIP POTPOURRI!
hilarious, and hunger inducing
@Biff: You're too late, I've claimed ownership if Ta-da! Just kidding, that dog was for you, Bifferoonie! Ta-da!
@ken mac: Glad you enjoyed it, the food at Old Town is great!
Kari has told me many times how neet-o your blog is and I never looked....until NOW! Wow, have I been missing out! Why didn't I read your blog before I went to New York last month? You're funny in a dry-witty kind of way and I like it!
@Jenny!! Jenny is my bff from work. I guess I just have to pimp myself out more for people to come see why I love this site :)
@Jenny: Thanks! Let me know the next time you come out here and I'll take you to Old Town!
@kari: Thanks for spreading the word!
