Live, from New York, it's Cheeseburger Saturday Night! Tonight's host is Neptune in the East Village with special guests, The Duncester, Sarah, Doug and Corrine and featuring the Ready for Prime Beef Player, Marty Wombacher. Ladies and gentleman, please welcome, Neptune!
Man in kilt alert!
Man in kilt alert two! There must be a convention in town or something. Nobody ever tells me anything!
And here we are at the Neptune restaurant. I'm meeting some people here tonight, but I'm about a forty minutes early so I can take some pictures before they get here. I've learned that when you socialize, it's easy to forget about pictures and the blog can suffer, so I'm here early to give you a pre-dinner tour of the place.
Here's some of the specials of the night. I think I'll pass on the pigs knuckles, I had them for breakfast.
Here's the front dining room.
And here's the longer dining area off to the side.
And there's a nice counter area in the back, where I thought I'd have a beer and relax before everybody shows up.
And just like magic, the lovely Evalina pours me a beer.
I got a bottle of Zywiec beer. It's a Polish beer and it's delicious and loaded with alcohol. Perfect for a Saturday night! I decided right then and there to have several more.
Signs for take-out specials and juices hang on the wall behind the counter.
Here's my patented ebony and ivory shot.
Cake!
This man is grilling onions on the griddle and I have to admit, I'm very entertained watching this.
And poof, like magic, it's dinner time. From left, Doug, Yours Fooly and The Duncester, who's made a couple of appearances on MAD in the past. It was a great dinner and the conversation topics ran from Paul Revere and the Raiders, to the Fugs, to Ballet, to jail and everything in between. Thanks to the Duncester for orchestrating the get together. Sarah and Corrine chose to stay out of this picture. Look at those three mugs, can you blame them? Thanks to everyone for meeting up for dinner, I had a great time!
Oh, I almost forgot, it's Cheeseburger Saturday Night, so I need to show my weekly burger. I got the turkey burger with cheddar cheese and it was delicious, read the review below. Goodnight everyone and see you tomorrow after dark.
My Meal
I got the turkey burger and it was delcious. It was topped with cheddar cheese and I always say that the bun can make or break a burger and this one was bakery fresh. A great burger for sure.
In addition to the turkey burger, there’s over a dozen varieties of burgers to be had at the Neptune including: a bacon cheeseburger; mushroom burger; feta burger and a vegetarian burger. Some of the entrees on the menu include: Beef Goulash; Breaded Pork Chops; Honey Dipped Chicken and Fresh Brisket. Staying true to their Polish roots, Neptune offers Handmade Pierogi, Fresh Blintzes, Potato Pancakes and a Polish Sampler plate which includes three pierogies, stuffed cabbage or stuffed pepper and Polish kielbasa.
Cheeseburger Rating
Three Wimpy's, a very good burger.

Great looking burger! Looks like a good time with fantastic topics for coversation! The music clip is a winner......I remember that one from cable tv from the 80's! I have it taped on vhs somewhere! Great song! Cheers....Great week of posts!
Love me a man in a kilt! See now that is a turkey burger that I will eat, actually turkey, it looks great. I'm not as big a fan of ground turkey burgers.
I gotcha kilt alert Marty, check your e-mail!
I saw "hungarian goulash" as one of the specials and that would be my choice, along with a cold zywiec.
A humble recommendation. Polish cuisine, venture out to Greenpoint.
@Professor Dungpie: It was a good night with good food and good people! All that was missing was Sandra Good!
@kari: It was probably one of the best turkey burgers I've ever had. The bun put it over the top.
@Jaws: I'll go check it now.
@Al: I need to go back and try the goulash one of these weeks, I bet it's great!
@csp: I've heard there's great Polish places there, I need to check them out one of these nights. Maybe a Sunday dinner in the future.
who you sass'n, jive turkey!! The turkey burger looks a little strange but I would give it a good home (rubs tummy). Marty, I'm heading to Thailand today and plan on doing some bar crawling...expect some photos.
@JAWZ: Text book Jaws.
@Clacky: Have a great trip! I can't wait to see the photos. Watch out for those Thai sticks, they pack a mean punch!
@Clacky: Obligatory; Puckett, Bangkok.
sorta tired sayin' MAD eats better than i...but it still looks that way...neptune has a very impressive menu...almost dropped to the floor when i saw corona on the drink menu as i swilled my "rutgut 45"...guess they're caterin' to friends to the south...
jaws...you know there is one in every "unit" wonder if he's related to MAD...
Preach not to others what they should eat, but eat as becomes you, and be silent.

I've eaten a lot of Polish food since I came to the States, both home-made & in restaurants. It's not even my favorite food, but I have a sort of sentimental love for it, especially kasha varnishkes with kielbasa or kabanos. There are still one or two places near me in Brooklyn - remainders of a Polish community, & csp is right about Greenpoint, but Polish food in the EV is just a perfect thing. A trip to Greenpoint would be a good MAD outing though - but be ready for serious drinking! Vodka shots (lots of them)with every meal when I stayed with Polish in-laws back in the 80s. Well not breakfast I guess.
You should have called me. I would have joined you. I go there two or three times a week. Neptune is about as Polish as one can get, Greenpoint or not!! Almost everybody in that joint is a recent Polish immigrant. Next time, try the Farmer's Platter...it's a sampler, the specifics elude me at the moment, but definitely includes a Kielbasa and probably some goulash. It always shows up on the daily menu. Went to the craziest birthday party ever last night. Still reeling from the aftermath. They had regular sized and midget strippers and fire-eaters etc. Try to get your hands on a Zywiec Porter, the dark beer. It's 9.5% alcohol by volume. Helps me fall asleep when I'm feeling restless. And I'm not even Polish. Sip Ahoy
Yum! For the men in kilts and the burger! I'm off to catch up on your blog now that I'm back!
a quote for all time:
"Home of the KILTED bartenders?" Holy shitballs! Kilt's creep me out big time! I mean if you're a man and you want to wear a dress, go for it, but at least slap on some make-up and make some sort of effort at cross-dressing. I can't take a guy wearing a plaid dress and being all Scottish and manly. This night is truly hexed!

sorry MAD could not resist...

@csp-You come from Green Point? Go back to Green Point. You don't work here no more.
@rr: Great quote, does the AD stand for After Dark? Thanks for remembering that 365 night, you remember more of my past than I do and I'm always grateful!
@Unlce Waltie: I'll let you next time for sure! Sip Ahoy!
@onemorefoldedsunset: I think I should plan a Green Point outing now after hearing about the vodka shots!
@Britta: Welcome back, great to hear from you!
@Crazy Eddie: I was going to say that that quote is right on the money, then realized it's right on the waterfront.
Phucked up my own dumb jokw earlier.
also Crazy-E. "Here, kid. Here's half a bill. Go get your load on. "
Neptun ... or ... Neptune ??? --- there's two different spellings outside ?
Neptun is a fave of mine too--I saw my table in your photos--they also have a nice garden in the back and a smoking section. My faves there are the breakfast special--blintzes and matzoa ball soup.YUM!
@GENE: I think that it's Neptune, I don't know why the signs don't have the "e" at the end. I'll try and find out next time I go.
@Melanie: I forgot to take pictures of the garden, it makes a good excuse to go back. I'll let you and Uncle Waltie know when I do and maybe we can all meet there.
Marty--let me know when we will rendezvous at Neptun(e).
@Melanie: Will do!
Stuffed chicken meatloaf?!?! Tell me more...
Also, I'm pretty sure that first dude was wearing a mini skirt. Everyone knows you can't match a kilt with a horizontal stripe.
I see a penis.
